(1) Ballpark figures given in reply to our standard enquiry (the Reply Test) are not collected yet, so no median is shown. A ballpark figure is not a written quote.
(2) Published cost guides: one entry per source, with the date it gives for its rates. A range from one state is shown only against that state's cities.
Listing medians are the Google rating and review count of the concreters on our list in each city. They describe the businesses, not prices.

No ballpark figures have been collected yet, because the Reply Test has not run. We hold 0 written quotes so far. A city gets its own page, built from both, when it reaches 10 prices.

What homeowners report

Unverified reports from public forum threads. They are never part of a range.

What changes the price

  1. Excavation and earthworks. One homeowner was quoted $150 a square metre with excavation "$4k on top" (SA, October 2026). Ask whether digging out is in the number.
  2. Slab thickness and reinforcement. Pathways are often 75 mm and driveways 100 mm, and the quote should name the mesh and bar chairs.
  3. Finish. Exposed aggregate costs more than plain, and the table above shows by how much in Australia.
  4. Pump hire and access. Tight access or no room for a truck can mean pumping the concrete, which is charged separately on many quotes.
  5. Removing the old slab. Breaking out and disposal are usually extra.
  6. Short loads and minimum charges. Small pours can attract a short-load fee or a minimum hours charge.
  7. Crossover. If the driveway crosses the footpath, the council permit is a separate cost.
  8. Site and drainage. Falls, a drop edge or a drain add work that a bare per-square-metre price does not show.

The crossover is a separate check

A driveway that crosses the footpath usually needs a vehicle crossing permit from your council, and the fee is separate from the concrete. Councils differ, so check yours in the permit table.

Common cost questions

How much does a 50 square metre concrete driveway cost in Australia?

That is the range multiplied by 50, not a quote.

Do I need a council permit for a driveway in Australia?

If the driveway crosses the footpath you usually need a vehicle crossing permit from your council. Fees differ by council: see the permit table.

Why do quotes for the same driveway differ so much?

Because the scope differs. One quote may include excavation, mesh on chairs and a pump, and another may not. Ask each concreter for the area, thickness, base and what is excluded in writing.

Does a concreter need a licence for a driveway in your state?

Ask for the number and look it up on your state register. The guide to hiring a concreter links to each one.

What is the cheapest way to get a concrete driveway?

A plain broom finish on a simple site, with no excavation, no pump and no old slab to remove. A cheap quote is not always a safe one. One WA homeowner was warned off the cheapest quote, partly because the mesh was laid with no bar chairs (r/AusRenovation, April 2025).
